The Son - Triptych Windows Series
The Son - Triptych Windows Series
THE PIN: While Kylo Ren's window is called The Grandson, Ben Solo's window is called The Son. The breaking waves at the bottom harken to Kef Bir, the stormy ocean moon where Ben is reborn on the ruins of the Death Star in part because of Leia's dying touch and Han's living memory. It was here that the fiery red lightsaber - the very saber that in killing his father, made him Kylo Ren - essentially kills Kylo, shattering the darkness. In Christian iconography, the image of a cross represents the death and resurrection of Jesus giving new life, so in this picture, the crossguard of Kylo's saber is placed behind Ben's head to symbolize that it is ultimately through his self-sacrifice that he is able to finish what his grandfather started and save Rey from dying. The melted ruins of Vader's helmet, once a symbol of Kylo's ambition and commitment to the Dark Side, is overgrown with resurrection lilies, symbolizing not just the resurrection of Ben Solo from the destruction of Kylo Ren, but the resurrection of Rey by his hands.
THE SERIES: A triptych is a piece of art that is divided into three, common among old stained glass installations. The goal with this series is to create enough pins of beloved SW characters for people to build their own triptych in a custom frame resembling a stone wall we hope to fund - but that's a ways down the road. For now, suffice to say, these 5" pin-on-pins will have the character opaque in the foreground while the window behind will have transparent/stained glass effects.
