THE PIN: Vader's flower is the Black Rose. Interestingly, since it's thought that black roses don't occur on their own in nature, most truly black roses are either dyed white roses, or white roses that have been subjected to a controlled burn. Black roses symbolize hatred, death, and despair. Elsewhere in the window, the Death Stars have replaced the twin suns of Tattooine, showing the shift in Anakin's...now Darth Vader's...loyalties. We have the green light of Luke's lightsaber clashing with the red of Mustafar's flames, echoing Luke and Vader's fight, while the flames themselves symbolize both Vader's beginning (his birth in the ravaging fire of Mustafar) and his end (in the purifying fire of Endor). The white hand is more than just a pointer to what Vader did Luke; it is in cutting off Luke's hand that Vader initiates the events that ultimately lead to his own redemption. When Luke has the opportunity to cut Vader down in VI, he looks at his gloved hand, realizes he is becoming like his father, and spares Vader...so that Vader may ultimately choose to save him, completing his redemption.

THE SERIES: A triptych is a piece of art that is divided into three, fairly common among old stained glass installations. The goal with this series is to create enough pins of beloved SW characters for people to build their own triptych in a custom frame resembling a stone wall we hope to fund. These 5" pin-on-pins will have the character opaque in the foreground while the window behind will mainly be transparent/stained glass, expect for smaller areas.
