The Grandson - Triptych Windows Series
The Grandson - Triptych Windows Series
THE PIN: When it came to Kylo Ren versus Ben, we decided to name Kylo's window The Grandson, as he identifies himself through his relationship to Darth Vader. At the top of his window, Snoke's throne looms over the silhouette of him and Han standing on the bridge where he would ultimately kill his father and become fully Kylo Ren. We love how in the concept art for that scene, the two stand small in a beam of cold light, and wanted to recreate that sense of illuminating loneliness. The reflection of Snoke's throne (a motif that mirrors Rey's window, and the reflection of Luke's island) is actually the Sith wayfinder that leads Kylo to Snoke's (and so Kylo's) puppet master. The silhouetted trees symbolize the snowy fight at the end of episode 7...the confrontation that begins a splintering in Kylo, which is represented here by the contrast between light and dark - trees and snow - and their fractured, shattered pattern. Kylo's flower is the Deadly Nightshade, a poisonous plant that historically was even used as a weapon. Because of its beauty paired with its deadliness, the Victorians considered it a meditation on the nature of good and evil.
THE SERIES: A triptych is a piece of art that is divided into three, common among old stained glass installations. The goal with this series is to create enough pins of beloved SW characters for people to build their own triptych in a custom frame resembling a stone wall we hope to fund - but that's a ways down the road. For now, suffice to say, these 5" pin-on-pins will have the character opaque in the foreground while the window behind will have transparent/stained glass effects.
